Arboricultural experience:

I have been involved in arboriculture for over 45

years, and have  extensive experience as an

independent tree consultant, arboricultural

consultant.  During this time I have worked for

local government, the Royal Horticultural

Society, and private industry. In the early 1970's

I trained at the RHS Gardens Wisley and later

became a practical tree surgeon in the gardens.

For four years I was a lecturer in Horticulture

and Arboriculture at the Cheshire College of

Agriculture, and later developed and taught the

BTEC National Diploma course in Countryside

management, at the Cambridgeshire College of

Agriculture. I have been an arboricultural and

horticultural examiner for the Royal Forestry

Society, and the Royal Horticultural Society.

I am one of the Arboricultural Association

Registered tree consultants, arboricultural

consultants. This means that I have been

assessed by the Association, and have shown to

have an in-depth technical knowledge of the

subject, and a broad range of experience

covering all aspects of a tree consultants,

arboricultural consultants, work.

I am a Fellow of the Arboricultural Association,

a past member of the governing council, and  a

past member of the Education committee.

During 1997, I was one of three registered tree

consultants, arboricultural consultants,

commissioned by the Arboricultural Association

to develop a computerised model (program)

capable of assessing the future risk of subsidence

damage to buildings when trees are growing

close-by. I have also given the Association advice

on the Arboricultural Appendix to the ISE

handbook.

Over the past 20 years I have been involved as a

tree consultant, arboricultural consultant, in over

3,500 cases involving trees and subsidence

damage to buildings.

For five years I acted for the Office of the

Deputy Prime Minister as an Inspecting Officer

on Tree Preservation Order Appeals,  which

provided me with a detailed insight into this

topic.
